So I drew this cold-weather (arctic circle) hunter roughly following an assignment that Anna Steinbauer (depingo
) set Styles (vansty
) on her livestream channel last Saturday. Side Note: If you're interested in improving your digital art, you should really check out Anna's livestream.
She has some recordings up if you can't catch it live, and basically you can pick up a ton of tips from when she critiques people's art and you can watch her sketching pretty things. I levelled up so many times from watching that stream!
Anyway, the basic idea of the assignment (as far as I remember) was to paint a hunter character on a plain background, and to do studies for pretty much everything in the image. Anna also wanted elements of the hunter design to be inspired by a specific real-world culture. Because I decided to do a cold-weather hunter, I took inspiration from Inuit clothing. The snow goggles, for example, which I've basically drawn here as they are in the real world, help prevent snow blindness. Elsewhere, I've sort of used Inuit clothing as an inspiration point and then done my own thing. I didn't really study anatomy for this (just a pose study), but I felt that personally I need to work on materials, textures and clothes, so I shifted my focus in that direction.
Trying to construct a nice portfolio - this is going in, I think!
